The most common reason for the problem with the icons is the corruption of the Windows icon cache. This can be rectified by rebuilding the Icon Cache. In order to rebuild the icon cache you first have to delete it so that windows will rebuild it upon a system reboot. This will solve your problem.

I did as you said but unfortunately I started encountering some problems, unknown to me, with icons. Things gets messy all in a sudden, and Windows starts displaying wrong icons on the desktop. After rebooting also the same thing occurs. Does this sound familiar? Could you please provide a quick reply here as I am really looking for a solution fix this problem?

This is a regular problem with Microsoft Windows Vista users now. Fix this icon error through Control Panel>>System and Maintenance>>Problem Reports and Solutions>>Change settings>>Advanced settings. Make sure to log in to your account having administrative credentials to make changes or modifications to the settings here. The icon corruptions could be easily checked with these steps.

I am using Microsoft Windows Vista and got irritated with the corrupted icons here. I am getting a green check mark and a yellow triangle displayed on my screen when the notifications pops up. Please tell me how to fix this issue as soon as possible. I hope to get a valid response from you.

To activate Windows Vista through computer, follow these steps:

· Go to My Computer and click on System properties displayed on the top tool bar.

· The Windows Vista activation status would be available at the bottom portion of the System Properties dialogue box, for you to check.

· Wait for few minutes for the operating system to retrieve the correct activation status.

You need to hit on the Install/Download button and follow the easy onscreen instructions to download Windows Vista in your system. It is better to perform the activation manually to avoid errors or make sure that you check the status after installation. Hope this works for you without any trouble.

Yes, users of Windows Vista and Windows 7 have been advised by Microsoft to completely disable their Windows Sidebar and Gadgets following a security threat. This report was released in late July and most of the issues have been fixed now. You don’t need to worry as long as you download gadgets from the official Microsoft page.

Thank you for the timely help. I could install some useful gadgets from their list. While I was searching for gadgets online I found some articles which said that the sidebar gadgets are under some security risk and that all users must stop using them. Could you please explain?
